The Romano Levi Distillery is a small, artisanal distillery located in Neive, in the heart of the Langhe region of Piedmont, Italy. It is famous worldwide for producing high-quality, traditional grappa using an ancient direct-fire copper alembic still—one of the last still in use today. The distillery is known not only for the purity and craftsmanship of its spirits but also for the unique, hand-drawn labels featuring the “Wild Woman” figure, created by Romano Levi himself. Today, it is considered both a working museum and a symbol of Italian heritage, officially recognized as a “Place of Memory and Tradition” by the Consorzio of Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato.
The Romano Levi Distillery was founded in 1924 by Serafino Levi in Neive, in the heart of the Langhe region of Piedmont, where high-quality grape pomace from Barolo and Barbaresco is abundant. Following Serafino's sudden death in 1937, his son Romano, only 17 at the time, took over the distillery and carried the legacy forward. Using the same traditional methods for decades, the distillery has become a symbol of authenticity and artisanal excellence. Since 2018, it has been officially recognized as a “Place of Memory and Tradition” by the Consorzio of Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato. Today, the distillery is a working museum and continues to produce around 20,000 bottles of grappa per year—limited quantities that underscore the rarity and prestige of each bottle.

Delicate & Floral
Crafted from a blend of Nebbiolo (Barbaresco), Dolcetto d’Alba, and Barbera grape marc, a delicate and aromatic grappa enriched with natural chamomile flowers. Distilled in small batches over an open flame with submerged marc, it undergoes a brief 6-month aging in wood before being infused with chamomile for an additional 3–4 weeks of maceration. This unique process, developed by Lidia Levi, preserves the full floral scent of the chamomile while enhancing the grappa’s natural elegance. Light yellow in color, it opens on the nose with fresh herbal and floral aromas, led by a distinctive note of chamomile. On the palate, it is soft, pleasant, and well-rounded, with a gentle, lasting chamomile character that lingers in a pure and refined grappa structure. A graceful and original expression of Levi’s tradition.

This Reserve Grappa is crafted from a blend of Nebbiolo (Barbaresco), Dolcetto d’Alba, and Barbera grapes grown in DOC and DOCG vineyards across Neive, Barbaresco, Trezzo, Treiso, and Alba. Following an original Serafino Levi recipe, the marc is locally processed and blended before being aged for a minimum of four years in 700-liter Piedmontese casks made from various woods. The grappa displays a light yellow, transparent color with an aromatic profile marked by herbal and woody notes, accented by a distinct touch of liquorice. On the palate, it is dry and well-structured, with a long-lasting liquorice finish that highlights its elegance and depth. The aging certification guarantees its authenticity and superior quality.

This grappa is made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes grown in DOCG vineyards across Neive, Barbaresco, Trezzo, Treiso, and Alba, following an original recipe by Serafino Levi. After distillation, the grappa is aged for a minimum of three years in 700-liter acacia wood casks, allowing it to develop depth and harmony while preserving the character of the grape. Light amber in color, it opens on the nose with fresh herbal notes and subtle wood, gradually revealing a soft touch of vanilla. Made from the marc of Moscato d’Asti DOCG grapes grown in Neive, Trezzo, and Treiso, this grappa is distilled in small batches over an open flame, following the traditional method perfected by Romano Levi. Aged for 6 months in 225-liter mixed-wood barriques, it maintains the grape’s full aromatic richness while gaining roundness and depth.
