The founding philosophy of Relic wines is and has always been to use the old methods to make the most authentic, complex and delicious wines possible. To do this successfully and to make world-class wines of every vintage, every detail needs to be prepared for, recognized when it occurs, celebrated and adapted to. There is no standard recipe, only the passion of the founders working in concert with nature, and to Mike and Schatzi, this is when true beauty occurs.
Relic is the story of Mike Hirby and Schatzi Throckmorton, who have more than two decades of wine making experience guiding their natural talents. Relic strives to make wines that represent a place and a time - with each growing season allowing for different expressions in balance with what nature offers. “ If there is a Relic style, we hope that it is one of balance, energy, complexity and harmony.”
