Complex & Elegant
The 2016 Paolo Bea 'Pagliaro' Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG is a distinguished red wine made from 100% Sagrantino grapes sourced from the Pagliaro vineyard at 400 meters above sea level in Umbria. Produced using organic practices, it undergoes spontaneous fermentation with extended maceration and is aged for 12 months in stainless steel, 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, and 12 months in bottle, all without filtration and with minimal sulfur. The result is a dense ruby red wine with complex aromas of wild blackberries, dried figs, tobacco, and spices, complemented by a full-bodied, warm palate with silky tannins. A true expression of Montefalco's terroir, it offers a harmonious balance of power and elegance and is ideal with roasted meats, game, aged cheeses, and rich desserts.
About the Winery
Paolo Bea
The Bea family of Montefalco embodies a centuries-old philosophy of living and working in harmony with nature. Deeply rooted in their land and traditions, they produce natural wines without synthetic chemicals or forced stabilization, allowing the true character of each vintage and terroir to shine through. Led by Giampiero Bea and supported by his family, their work reflects a profound respect for biodiversity, cultural heritage, and the rhythms of the earth. Every step of the process—from vineyard to bottle—is carried out with patience and care, guided by observation, lunar cycles, and ancestral knowledge. Their wines are not the result of industrial standardization, but rather of thoughtful agriculture that seeks balance between human hands and natural forces. The result is honest, healthy, expressive wines that speak of place, time, and tradition.
